The EMA team has a great deal of experience in antenna modeling. We offer our services for hire in addition to our software tool, EMA3D, that has been designed for advanced antenna simulation, including conformal and integrated antennas that are out of reach for other solvers.
EMA3D is a general purpose full-wave EM time-domain solver. What sets it apart for antenna modeling is the unique ability to easily import all major CAD formats to include the effects of the aircraft or other structures into the simulation. Further, EMA3D has visualization tools specific to antenna modeling that help analysts write compelling reports.
The EMA3D approach is especially useful when dealing with conformal and integrated antennas. EMA3D can help determine the performance of antennas integrated into carbon fiber composite frames. The antenna efficiency and radiation resistance can be compared for various design alternatives, including effects of composite materials or expanded metal meshes. EMA3D helps determine the performance of the antenna coupler. In addition to evaluating the antenna performance, the same model can be reused for related EM analysis. EMA3D can determine the RF coupling from the antenna to nearby cables. Further, the code is ideal for simulating the transients induced by a lightning strike to the antenna element or backshell.
EMA3D includes tools to plot the radiation pattern in 2D and 3D, including various loss mechanisms. The antenna efficiency may be optimized through simulation before a physical prototype is fabricated. A design to minimize interference induced on nearby wires may be evaluated during the development phase, as well evaluation of the lightning protection approach.
